Welcome back to school! We’re already making 2020 a good year! We are learning about New Testament stories, animals and castles!
Today we started building our own castles from recycled materials. We have been busy problem solving ways to make battlements, arrow slits, portcullises and drawbridges. Later in the term we will have a school trip to a castle too.
In keeping with our castle theme, in English we are going to be reading Rapunzel – with a twist . We’re excited and we haven’t even read the first page yet! In our maths we have been reminding ourselves about place value when we count and write numbers. This will lead into counting within 50.
We had a joyful start of term Mass this morning, also celebrating Epiphany, and the class had remembered lots about the visit of the Magi. We even remembered the word Frankincense, which is easy to mistake for a variety of other words!
The Spring term sees the start of homework for Year 1 children. We will have a weekly spelling test (linked to our phonics from the previous week) and maths activities to reinforce our maths learning. Daily reading continues to be important and asking us questions about what we are reading really helps us to learn to understand the texts we read.
