On Tuesday 19th November, History Off the Page came to our school. They set up a Victorian “house” consisting of 12 rooms in the hall.
The children experienced a range of jobs in the various rooms of The Big House
Downstairs, some children acted as maids and pages, they were expected to lay the fires, polish and clean, and even learn how to shave the master of the house! In the ‘outside’ rooms they worked in the laundry, they were shown how to plant and label seeds in the garden room, and issued servant wages from the estate office.
Upstairs, they learned how to lay the table and serve in the dining room, write with dip pens in the study, and play with their toys before the bedtime routine in the nursery.
In the afternoon we had a Victorian Musical and everyone took part, it was a fantastic day!
