Today, all of the Year 6s went to the seat of our diocese: Norwich Cathedral. It was a really fantastic opportunity to see hundreds of other children from across the diocese all in a multicoloured array of uniform colours. The Mass itself was presided over by Bishop Alan and several other priests; there was a proper organist (!), five cantors (four of which were children from local secondaries), a school orchestra and a couple of school choirs who led us in a beautiful celebratory Mass filled with music, trumpets, fanfares, and incense! It really was a wonderful multi-sensory experience in a beautiful setting (and we were very near the front). The children sang fantastically (and we’re saying that completely objectively!) and even joined in with the communion hymn which we had practised but was not on the Mass sheet. It really was a fantastic opportunity for them to see a Mass with the full ‘smells and bells’! We even had one of our own altar serving; it was lovely to be able to contribute in this way too.
